Winter Poem and a Wonderful Surprise!!!

Winter by Walter de la Mare
Clouded with snow
The cold winds blow,
And shrill on leafless bough
The robin with its burning breast
Alone sings now.

The rayless sun,
Day's journey done,
Sheds its last ebbing light
On fields in leagues of beauty spread
Unearthly white.

Thick draws the dark,
And spark by spark,
The frost-fires kindle, and soon
Over that sea of frozen foam
Floats the white moon.

A special thank you to Kim of for offering a wonderful giveaway sponsored by The Verbena Cottage.  I was the winner of the holiday giveaway!  What a wonderful surprise!
Hope you all are enjoying your holidays with friends and family!

Christmas Cookie Time

Hi Friends:

Just a small post on some cookies that I have made during the holiday season....I only made about four different kinds this year...Usually I make at least eight to ten different kinds.  Oh well, next year, once I am settled in my home, I will start a new tradition and host a cookie swap in my neighborhood.  Sounds good to me!  Do you ever attend cookie swaps with friends and/or neighbors?  My sister has had several in the past and they were always a lot of fun!

Nothing is better than having homemade cookies from the oven with a glass of milk.............

I just had to buy these napkins, aren't they adorable?

My favorite cookie tins that I have had for several years!

Happy Holidays to you and Your Family!

My Little German Feather Tree

I have had this German Feather Tree for several years.

Added some sparkly ornaments along with some fresh pines.

This is one of my favorite tavern tables dated back in the early 1800s.

News on  Home:.   We bought our home from a military family so the program takes a little longer with settlement.  We should settle towards the end of January or mid-February.  YEAH!

Hope you are enjoying your day!  Happy Holidays!

Okay, now it is time to make some cookies!!!

Baba Rhum for Dessert?

This week, I visited Bluffton and had lunch here.  For dessert, I had the baba which had a warm sauce served over top of it.  It was too die for!  It was a light type cake soaked in butter rum and served warm.  So I went home and did some research on it and found this recipe that looks and reminds me like the one that I had.

This is such a great idea to have for dessert during the holiday season!

I found this recipe:

I think this is going to be on my dessert list over the holidays!!  ENJOY!

Some Vintage Finds and Giveaway Winner

Hi Friends:

Just wanted to share some of the latest finds that I found for my new home.

I just love this, can't wait to use this for decorating!!!

I found a shop on  Lady's Island, South Carolina that is going out of business.

First - I finally found a whiskey barrel, (See above) can't wait to use this for my decorating purposes.  Perhaps I might start with it on the front porch with a old, vintage checker board/checkers.  Trying to locate a whiskey took a while since everything that I found was basically far away from me and the shipping costs were astronomical.  The best news about this find was that it only cost me $50.00 which I was ecstatic over!  I think I will change decorating it for certain holidays...(pumpkins, gourds, mums for Fall); greens with candles and lanterns for holidays, etc.)

Me second find was this gorgeous farm table that I will use in my dining room....Now I currently have two tables (one in my current rental and this new one).  Therefore, I will have to sell my old table along with my six ladder back chairs.

Love the tapered legs and the pull drawer on this farm table

I just love this table purchase!  It has a drawer in the front and the patina of table is absolutely beautiful.  Now it is going to be fun to find chairs/or bench to go with this.....I kind of have some ideas and also have two new parson chairs to add to table.

And for the winner of the burlap handbag giveaway -- Congratulations to Holli of

I will have more giveaways soon!!!

Gone Fishing - Tybee Island Beach

This weekend, I went over to Tybee Island, GA.  The beach is near the city of Savannah.  The rumor is that John Mellenkamp and Sandra Bullock have houses here but not sure if they still do.  It is a very popular area for the state of Georgia.  The population as of 2010 is approximately 3,000 so it still has the quaint feel to it.  Instead of high rise condos, there are typical beach homes, motels and small cottages dotting the shoreline. The fishing is great, also--I caught a sheepshead and whiting on a recent visit.

Here are some photos that I wanted to share with you......

I am so excited on finding my bistro chairs at last!  Last week I was driving around the area of Lady's Island, South Carolina and saw some bistro chairs outside of an antique shop.  I did not stop since the store was located in the other direction that I was headed towards.  So the next day, I went to visit the store, and gazed at these chairs.....I was so excited to see them and went right away to the sales clerk and asked the price of them.

Yes - I got a great deal on these since I have been researching for these quite awhile now and am aware of the current pricing.  The price tag was faded away so the sales clerk came over to see price and responded $70.00 for both.  Yes I will take them, I said excitedly.

Here are some photos that I have of them to share with you.

Stenciled with "Cafe Las Ramblas"

I adore the turquoise color of chair

I used upholstery tacks to place initial on pumpkin

I also bought a farm table from the 1800's but do not have a photo of it yet since the store is holding it for me until  I move
into my home.  Will share photo of my table once I get settled.

I am still house hunting and can't wait to decorate with these two chairs...........

I Can't Believe She is 7 Years Old -- Cupcake Celebration

Happy Birthday, LOLA~

Here she is ready to devour her vanilla cupcake to celebrate!

Here is the bakery that I visited to buy her cupcake which is located in Beaufort, SC.  It just recently opened and has a large selection of cupcake flavors.  One of my favorites is Red Velvet, of course.

Today I visited Carolina Cider Company in South Carolina.  It was an old general store filled with homemade ciders, pickles, jellies, jams, BBQ sauces, grits, pecans and rices.  They also have samplings of their products for tasting.  Their jellies are so tasty!  I decided to try the peach cider and it was so yummy.  In fact, I decided to buy some to take home with me.  The ciders are all handmade without any artificial flavorings.

Homemade pies were also one of their specialties made by a local baker.  In fact, Laurel Goodman was interviewed by Southern Living and you can read about her here, I included the website.

My Vintage Finds

Today I felt like shopping for some vintage finds, so I drove over to the Bluffton historical area.  The square was filled with many art galleries, restaurants, wine shop, and boutiques close to the May River.

I came across this cute little boutique called Eggs n Tricities.  The decor of this place was so vintage looking. Everything inside the store was so cute that I could have bought everything in the store, not exactly!  There was a selection of hilarious cards, clothing, soaps, purses, baby clothing, vintage jewelry and many other items for your home.

Overall I had a great time and came home with a vintage dress and tool box.  I just quickly took a shot of the toolbox with some fall items. I would not use this on my table due to its size, did not think it was that large until I got home.  Oh well, I would definitely use this on my front porch filled with geraniums.

Don't U just love this bike?
Old Fisherman Never Die, They Just Smell That Way.......

Here is the dress, it looks better on then on the hanger......Do you know what I mean?

My vintage tool box that I found

Will definitely go back again to do some more shopping!!!!

I visited the Back in the Day Bakery in Savannah and it immediately brought back my childhood memories the first moment I walked in the door.  Even when I was a teenager, I made money baking items for neighbors and friends.  The decor inside the bakery was vintage, airy and nostalgic. The windows allowed plenty of light, and the chandeliers added a vintage vibe.  The exposed brick walls seemed authentically aged for a warm, nostalgic feel.
See the Easy Bake Oven - top shelf on the left hand side?  I just loved mine, did you have one?   I also love the enamel items, vintage mixer and cupcake stands.....
Their baked items (cupcakes, cookies, cakes, etc) were out of this world.  I took home with me some pumpkin crunch bars and homemade banana pudding........

Homemade breads....I just love the wall decor on the walls, the BREAD sign (left) is cute also.
I just adore the wall hanging on the left wall, "Keep Calm, Have a Cupcake"

Do you have a favorite bakery that you want to share?

Just A Little More Fall Decorating

I found this table at a local vintage shop in PA.  The artwork is from Nancy Thomas.  I found her art in Williamsburg, VA and have loved it ever since.  In fact, I have a monthly subscription for her artwork.  Just love it!
I just could help myself for going thru  more of my boxes in storage and pulling out more decorations!  It makes me think of fall back home in Pennsylvania. Can't wait until I get my new home and be able to decorate it the way I like it!  I know, I know I have to be patient!!!

Here is one more shot of a bench with some of my decorations ----

My favorite pillow for Halloween

I just love this mason jar filled with small pumpkins.....

Have a wonderful day!  What is your favorite decoration for Halloween?

I had a fun day today in Charleston!  There is so much to do in this city.  Even though I have not been here for quite a long time, I still love Charleston's charm.
There are many excellent restaurants here to choose from.  So we decided to try the which was excellent. Where else could you order mashed sweet potatoes, okra/tomatoes over jasmine rice, Crowder peas, squash casserole, collard greens, macaroni and cheese, and deep fried cheese grits?  I ordered Fried Chicken with ham gravy, red rice and cornbread.  It was the best fried chicken I have ever tasted......Of course dessert was also ordered which included buttermilk pie, one of my favorites!

Some real southern comfort food

I love their logo...grits are good for you!!!

Our day also included some brief shopping which included some boutiques and  This is such a cool store which carries a variety of honey, soaps, creams, and miscellaneous items.  My purchases included a tee shirt along with some Tupelo Honey.

This would be great on biscuits or drizzled over your favorite yogurt.....This is a raw honey which never crystallizes and has a buttery taste to the tongue!

If you are ever visiting Charleston, make sure you visit these places!  I promise you they are worthwhile.
