Road trip to the Back in the Day Bakery

We visited Back in the Day Bakery during the week which is about 40 minutes from where I live. The owners, Cheryl and Griff Day are such nice and friendly owners. While I was there, they were having their photos taken with visiting customers. At times the bakery can be busy as Paula Dean (a friend of the owners) has the bakery as one of the stops of a tour.

Recently the owners had a cookbook published and of course I made a purchase and had it autographed by Cheryl. The cookbook is so well designed along with some of the bakery's favorite recipes and wonderful photography.

I love stopping by the bakery since everything about is it so charming along with its vintage style which I adore. I have included some photos of inside along with bakery items.

Inside - couldn't get a good photo, it was busy with patrons

If you are ever visiting Savannah, make sure you include the bakery in your itinerary.

Here is a glimpse of the cookbook.

I will be sharing some wonderful recipes from this once I make them.  I think first on my list will be banana pudding.

P.S. here are some random pics of homes in Savannah.

Some More Vintage Finds and Beaufort Water Festival

How is your week going so far?

I had a busy week last week, as the town that I live in held their Annual Waterfest for the last 10 days. We went to concerts, craft shows, air show, corn hole tournaments and a bed race. Yes a bed race! Decorated  hospital beds would  race against the clock. During the time the participants are racing, spectators douse the teams with buckets of water. It was so much fun to watch.  More information on the festival can be found here.

Here are some recent finds that I wanted to share.

I have been on the hunt for one of these enamel breadboxes.  I remember my grandmother having one.

I found the white ironstone pitchers on Etsy

Vintage Metal Tray with Decoupage Flowers found at Habersham Antiques, Savannah.

I just love finding vintage items for my home.  Right now, I am trying to finish up with decorating my kitchen cabinet tops with my finds.

What are some of your vintage finds lately?

Thanks for visiting.

Nancy Thomas Wall Gallery Reveal

Hey there,

Wanted to share the wall gallery that I just completed. The art is by Nancy Thomas of Yorktown, VA.  More information about her can be found here.  I bought these awhile ago while visiting Williamsburg and did not want to hang them until we found our new home. So here it is! We hung them informally staggering up the stairway. We just used nails and a hammer and Voila!,,,

Summer Recipes

Hi There,

I wanted to share some summer recipes with you all.  The recipes that I made were vegetables and fruits that I purchased from my local farmer's market.

First dish is Greek Pasta Salad.  Recipe is here.  I used fresh oregano from my garden instead of the dried as listed on recipe.  It was so good and is definitely a great dish to take to a picnic.

I also made Honey Peach Ice Cream.  Recipe is here.  This was also tasty.  It was fun using fresh local peaches from Georgia.  I just love fresh peaches in the summer and love to use them in many things when I am cooking.  I also like to make peach cobblers, peach clafouti's, peach pies and peach smoothies.

I used Savannah Bee Tupelo honey in the ice cream.  You can purchase it here.

Cooking the peaches until softened for about 10 minutes

On right had side, milk, heavy cream and sugar and egg yolks cooked until temp. at 170 degrees and coats the back of a spoon.  Left hand side is cooked peach mixture.

After placing in freezer for a couple of hours, it is time to taste!  This is definitely a keeper!

Thanks for visiting!

Blueberry/Raspberry Picking

I love blueberry picking and it is usually a tradition for me every year.  This year, I went picking with my nieces and nephew at a local orchard.  The blueberries were just perfect for picking.

The bushes were filled with clusters of blueberries

Also picked some raspberries

My niece Jenna also enjoyed picking them!  Isn't her hat adorable?

My nephew, Zander

Do you pick your own blueberries or other fruit?

Thanks for visiting!  Now it's time for me to fix a bowl of fresh blueberries with some yogurt!  YUM!!!
