Some Goodies in the Mail

Hi Everyone,

Hope your week is going well. This week, I received a package in the mail from my blogging friend, Monica. She is the owner of the blog called  A Nantucket State of Mind.  Click here.  Her blog is filled with such beautiful inspiration and  you have to check out her beautiful garden!  She also has an Etsy shop filled with many pretty things including vintage linens, silverware and homemade rustic muslin and burlap sacks.

I was so excited when I was opening my package.  She sent me several mini wooden bobbins which I will place in baskets around my home or perhaps on my coffee table.

She also sent me several muslin bags filled with lavender which smells divine.  I can't wait to scatter them around my home and dresser drawer.

I love the stamped bird and shamrock and postal design!

Also in my package, there was a beautiful, vintage dresser scarf for one of my guest bedrooms.  I had ordered vintage pillow cases from her Etsy shop in the past and they are similar to them!  I just love them!

So if you get a chance, please stop over to visit her Etsy shop - Prince Snow Farm, click here.  Also when you get a chance, pop on over to her blog, A Nantucket State of Mind, click here.

Thanks again Monica!

Steal of the Day!

Yesterday I visited one of my favorite consignment shops near my home. I love to visit to see what kind of new goodies that added to their store. Well low and behold, there it was, a wonderful lamp that I just had to to home with me! It was the perfect style, had the perfect lampshade and what a steal of a deal. Guess what I paid for this? Well - are you running out of guesses? Yes - I only paid $25 dollars for it. In fact when I was checking it over, I was actually looking for two price tags, one for the base and one for the shade so I asked sales clerk and she said that was the total price. SCORE! I love visiting this store, you never know what you will find. I have my eye on another great piece that I am contemplating on so will check back later this week and decide where I will place it in my home. I will share that with you at a later time. Hope you are enjoying your week.

Close-up of base, love the detail

Also just a reminder that I have added my Facebook Badge to the right hand sidebar of my blog. Please feel free to follow me on Facebook too!

Chippendale Mirror and Boxwood Topiaries

Hi There,

Hope you had a great weekend.

Over the weekend, I wanted to redecorate my hallway upstairs so I got out my preserved boxwood topiaries and decorated my vintage table that was given to me by my in-laws.  Also I added the wire beaded basket with curly willow balls for some texture.  I bought the boxwoods from Ballard and although they were quite pricey, they have lasted and are still in great condition.  I mist them with water on a as-needed basis.  So if you are ever seeking boxwoods for your home, I would recommend browsing Ballard's website.

My mirror was handmade from cherry and signed by a well known cabinet maker back in Pennsylvania.  I love the size of it and it fits perfectly over my table.  I also have a small primping mirror that I bought from the same person and will include in another post.

It is supposed to rain for a couple of days in SC so thought I would take these photos before it got rainy and gray outside.

Do you have any plans for Valentine's Day?  Do you prefer to cook or dine out?

Thanks for visiting!

Please note that I have added a FB badge to my sidebar. I hope you will follow me on Facebook, too!

Valentine Butter Cookies

Every year, I use my favorite recipe (see below) for one of my favorite butter cookies for Valentine's Day!  I have had this recipe for years and have been making these since I was a teenager!

Here is the recipe:

1 cup sugar
4 cups sifted flour
1 well beaten egg
1 1/2 cups butter (softened)
2 teaspoon vanilla
1 teaspoon baking powder

Preheat oven to 400 degrees.  Thoroughly cream butter and sugar, add egg and vanilla.  Beat well.  Sift dry ingredients together and add to creamed mixture and stir until smooth dough.  Cover dough and refrigerate for a couple of hours.  (I actually divide into separate balls and wrap with saran wrap).  Roll dough to 1/4 inch thickness.  Flour cutters and cut into shapes.

Bake on ungreased cookie sheet in oven for 8-10 minutes or until lightly golden brown.

Do you bake for Valentine's Day? Have a wonderful day!
