Fidella was one of the “Big Swim” mermaids that graced Beaufort’s Water Festival in 2007. She was designed by Emily Post with help from the Boys & Girls Club Teen Center. Artist Emily Post shared some of her thoughts about her artwork. “My mermaid is named Fidella, meaning Faithful, taken from the Marine Corps motto: Semper Fidellis (Semper Fi,) said Emily Post. Collecting all the photos has been a great opportunity to talk with different Marines. Not only am I representing myself as the artist, but I’m also representing those Marines and their families.” After Fidella was on display at Celadon on Sam’s Point Road, she was relocated to Parris Island where she was a regular at the Officers’ Club. She was donated to ARTworks in 2013 and became available for purchase. Interested Broad Street residents decided Fidella was a perfect fit for our neighborhood and the board agreed.
A neighbor installed her on the neighborhood green. It seems that Fidella now watches over our neighborhood as we have always welcomed those who are servicemen/women and their families.
So what do you think? Isn't she beautiful?
Now for the sneak peek project --
Just recently found this dresser at a recent sale and it caught my eye! It is the perfect piece for one of the guest rooms that I am almost ready to reveal! (I know it has been a long project). I had something else in place of the dresser and did not like it so I started all over again! Did you ever experience the same thing?
Well I need to get busy on choosing a paint for the dresser and some new knobs to make her just beautiful!
Will share the guest bedroom reveal very soon!
