I love a good bakery and enjoy visiting them quite often for coffee, fresh artisan breads, pastries, cookies and such. My favorite in Beaufort, SC where I used to live was Beaufort Bread Company. I have to say they had great breads and pastries. My husband and I took awhile to find some good artisan breads while living there.
While visiting Durham over the weekend, we went to Scratch Bakery. In fact, while we were house hunting for our temporary digs, we tried it once before. The pies and desserts are to die for! They are open for breakfast and lunch and serve brunch on the weekends. We had been reading wonderful reviews on it so of course we had to try it!
There is seating inside and outside and since it was such a beautiful morning we opted for outside. I love their weekend brunch menu too.
Their menus are written on oversized chalk boards which I love.
Scratch has been featured in many publications such as Garden & Gun, and many other publications. Scratch was also featured in Food and Wine Magazine. See here. Here is a sample menu also here.
I ended up ordering the Avocado Toast. It consisted of two slices of thick toast with smashed avocado's, layered with cucumbers and sea salt. It was so delicious and yet so healthy. My husband ordered a slice of peach cream pie with a homemade cookie crust which he said was so good. I didn't get a photo of his pie though. Oh - and their coffee is great too!
So if you are ever in the Raleigh-Durham area, make sure that you visit Scratch Bakery.
Have a wonderful week!
