Once a Theater, Now a Hotel

Hello There,

Hope you had a lovely Thanksgiving and some great time with family and friends.

I wanted to share a hotel that I stayed at while I visited Pennsylvania in November.  Before it became Hotel Warner, it was the Warner Theater also known as High Street Theater.  The theater was built back in the early 1930's.  It had a two story foyer with a three story tower that formerly supported the marquee.

I remember as a child going to the theater with my grandmother to see some of my favorite movies. However in 1986, the theater was demolished and renovated to the Hotel Warner.

While surfing the Internet, I found some photos of the theater.  This one I found on the Chester County Historical Society site.

The photo below is inside the auditorium....

Now here is what it is today - HOTEL WARNER

This photo was in the hotel lobby......

The hotel is located right in the historic town of West Chester, PA.  The location is perfect as you can walk to many shops.  It was a great location for me as one of my favorite clothing shops, Jane Chalfant was right across from the hotel.  There are also some great restaurants that are within walking distance from the hotel.

Other points of interest nearby are:  Chester County Historical Society, American Helicopter Museum and QVC tour.

So if you are ever visiting West Chester, Hotel Warner would be a perfect lodging choice!

A Great Appetizer for Thanksgiving

Isn't this the perfect appetizer for serving your guests before the Thanksgiving Feast?

I think so!  So what are your plans for the big day?  I am cooking turkey this year -- just bought a fresh turkey at Trader Joe's.  Now onto finishing up the menu.....

Enjoy your weekend!

Historic Marshallton Inn - Chester County, PA

On my recent visit to Pennsylvania, I took some photos of Marshallton Inn/Four Dogs Tavern. The inn/tavern is located in West Bradford, Chester County, PA.  My brother is chef and co-owner of the Inn and Tavern.

Marshallton, a small village is largely known for its historic building, restaurants and the nearby Highland Orchards, a pick your-own orchard offering a variety of produce year round.

Here are some photos of the tavern and the Inn.  This is the front entrance of the Inn.  The original section was built about 1790 and has had many additions to its original structure.  It was originally built as a residence but was converted to a tavern/restaurant in early 1800s.

There is also the Four Dogs Tavern located right next door to the historic Inn.  The tavern was originally the stables to the Marshallton Inn.

I love eating at the tavern in the summer time!  It is also dog friendly restaurant, so many patrons bring along their dogs for outside seating.  They are provided with a dog bowl of water in the hot months!  There is also live music on the weekends!

In the fall, there is a fireplace that they light in the evenings!

The scenery is also breathtaking on the patio of the tavern.  As you can see in the background, the foliage is turning it's autumn colors and there is farmland in the backdrop where there are fields of haystacks.  Such a pretty scene!

Here is more info on the tavern/Inn.  See here.

I also found some photos of other buildings in the village.

They usually have some of the historic homes open in the village during the holiday season.  My brother and family live in the village so it is a easy commute to his work.

Thanks for your visit!

Cheslyn Preserve, Chester County, PA

While visiting my family in PA last week, my sisters and I walked on the trails of the Cheslyn Preserve.

The preserve is one of the largest private preserves in SE PA which features agricultural fields (hay and soybeans), and wooded stream corridors.  It is also designated as an important Bird Area by the National Audubon Society.  There is approximately 12 miles of unpaved trails ranging from easy to moderate which are available for walking and hiking.

There are horseback riding trails in designated areas too!  Canoeing and kayaking is also permitted on the preserve.

It was a beautiful day for our hike with weather just perfect.  Next time I go, I want to take binoculars to for some bird watching!

We saw tons of bittersweet on our walk.  I love using it around my home during the the Fall season.

Do you like to hike?  Do you have preserves where you live?

Some Family Fun in Pennsylvania

Hello There,

It seems like I have been away from blogging for awhile now.  Recently I went back to Pennsylvania to visit family.  It was great to see everyone and spend some time with them.

Here are some photos of my nieces and nephews (actually not all of them).  I have 11 nieces and nephews and they all do not reside in PA.  The weather there was actually very nice with a couple of warm days.  Right before we left, a cold front came through a left a dusting of snow!

My nieces and nephews are very active in sports so I was able to see them practice on my sister's property!

We played some fun games and celebrated with cake and coffee on my last night before I left for NC.

It was so nice of a visit and I am trying to plan another visit in the spring!

Be back with some more photos of my trip soon!

These Boots Are Made For Walking.......

It was such a beautiful fall day here in North Carolina and it was also a great day to take some photos outdoors.  I thought it was also a great idea to get some outdoor shots of me donning one of my favorite pair of boots - my Justin Boots.  I bought these awhile ago in Arizona.

I love the style and how they are so worn in.  They are also great to wear with jeans!

"These boots are made for walking, and that's just what they'll do one of these days
these boots are gonna walk all over you."

Ghosts, Graveyards, Witches, Pumpkins - Oh My!

On Friday night, our neighborhood held their trick or treat night!  It was so much fun and so many of the homes were all decked out for the occasion!

I live in a large neighborhood with gorgeous homes and there are many of them so this is a perfect place to trick or treat as a kid if you want tons of candy, right?

Here are some photos that I took during our walk through the neighborhood.  I wish I would have taken more........

It was a fun night filled with family fun, scary music, costumes and complimentary hot chocolate with whipped cream!

While walking with Owen and Baby Madison, I felt like a kid again!  It brought back great memories of me when I trick or treated in my neighborhood with my siblings!

Well, did you have a great time on Halloween too?
