Handmade Fabric Hearts for Valentine's

Hello, How was your week? I have been busy with a craft for Valentines Day that I wanted to share with you. This craft did not require a sewing machine (well I don't have one). I have included a tutorial too.

There is a very nice fabric store near me where I bought my fabric.  Since I love the color pink, I bought swiss dot in red and white, and two pink floral prints.

Instructions:

Draw a heart (free-hand) on a heavy stock as my template in two sizes.

Place template on fabric and trace two of them using the template.....

Place two hearts face side up and begin to sew together.  See below.

I  hand stitched around the heart leaving about 1/4" seam and left a small opening for filling the heart.  After sewing, I then clipped around the heart shape close to the stitching.

I turned inside out and then I stuffed the hearts with polyester fill.  You could also fill the heart with lavender and use as sachets.....

After filling the heart, close up the opening.

You can embellish the hearts with ribbon, rick rack, buttons and even a ribbon to hang.  However since I do not have a sewing machine I added buttons to them before sewing them together.

Oh I just love my little Valentine hearts, I think they are so cute.  I just placed them in a basket on my dining room table!  They make my heart go pitter-patter!

Have you made any crafts for Valentine's?

Valentine Candle Crafts

I love Valentine's Day! How about you? I love candles too and since I have so many candles around my home, I thought it would be fun to add some special touches to them for Valentines!

VALENTINE CANDLE CRAFTS

I gathered up some of my glass votive holders, cookie sprinkles for Valentine's that I bought at grocery store, and some vanilla candles.  Oh I love the scent of vanilla.

I just filled the glass votives and it is easy as 1,2,3!

I also found a heart shaped glass votive holder and placed a cherry flavored candle inside.  This area where I have all of the candles displayed smell like cherry vanilla and it is fabulous!

My next one was to adhere felt heart stickers to candles.  The stickers were bought at the Dollar Store and I already had the white candles.

I love how this one turned out and love the iron candle stand that I have for it!

The next one I had some red ribbon that I super glued to the glass candle holder.  So easy and I like the simple look that it portrays!

I also like using the color pink for Valentines.  I had some pink/white bakers twine in my craft closet and just wrapped some around a simple glass candle holder.

Here they all are displayed on one of my cupboards with a simple lace doily.

Do you make Valentine crafts for your home?  Thanks for your visit~

New SideTable for Living Room

Happy Saturday! How are you? I am busy working on a craft as we speak and wanted to show you a new table that I bought recently.

I have been looking for a table for a while now (I know, it takes me a while!) for one of my chairs in the living room. So I came up with this one. What do you think? I like the twisted legs and the richness in the wood.

I like the twisted legs and the richness in the wood. I placed some potted paperwhites that I found at Pottery Barn awhile ago.

I switched this lamp on the table from the hallway.  I love the style and lampshade together......

Well I think I found the perfect side table!  Now I am moving other things around in my living room and will share other photos with you soon!

Hope you have a great weekend!  Thanks for your visit.

Fresh Flowers in the Living Room

Hi There, How is your week going so far? Over the weekend, I stopped by at Trader Joe's and bought some fresh flowers for my home. I love that store and their flowers! They have so much varieties of flowers and you cannot beat their prices! I first saw a hyacinth bulb that had to go into my shopping cart. It is now blooming and the fragrance is wonderful!  (Getting a little top heavy though!)

I placed the hyacinth in a rattan basket for texture and also added a ironstone pitcher along with a ironstone candle stand and a willow sphere on coffee table.

I also added a blue table runner on coffee table.

I added another white bouquet to my ironstone pitcher and placed on stool near my new chair.
Not sure what kind of flowers they are, no name on package.  Let me know if you know what they are.  They kind of remind me of a snapdragon, but not sure.

Well there you have it, just adding a little touch of spring with flowers to my living room!  I am happy and I love the fragrance that it provides!

Do you love adding  fresh flowers in your home too?

Have a wonderful week.

Winter.......

The Garden in Winter - Lucy Maud Montgomery

Frosty-white and cold it lies
Underneath the fretful skies;
Snowflakes flutter where the red
Banners of the poppies spread,
And the drifts are wide and deep
Where the lilies fell asleep.

But the sunsets o'er it throw
Flame-like splendor, lucent glow,
And the moonshine makes it gleam
Like a wonderland of dream,
And the sharp winds all the day
Pipe and whistle shrilly gay.

Safe beneath the snowdrifts lie
Rainbow buds of by-and-by;
In the long, sweet days of spring
Music of bluebells shall ring,
And its faintly golden cup
Many a primrose will hold up.

Though the winds are keen and chill
Roses' hearts are beating still,
And the garden tranquilly
Dreams of happy hours to be
In the summer days of blue
All its dreamings will come true.

Corn Chowder

Well I was busy last week making homemade soups during the cold temperatures.  I recently made a corn chowder that I have made in the past and love.  It is filled with so much flavor and requires simple ingredients.

Sauteed onion

I used fresh Parmesan cheese that we brought back from our trip to Tuscany.  Yes I recommend fresh Parmesan, as it adds so much more flavor.

Recipe:

32 ounce carton chicken broth
1 c. chopped onion
1/4 c. flour
4 slices bacon
2 medium Russet potatoes
1 can creamed corn (15 ounce)
1 can sweet corn (15 ounce)
1 cup light cream or milk (I used low-fat milk)
1/2 teaspoon dried basil
1/2 cup roasted red pepper
Grated Parmesan for garnish

Cook bacon until crisp, drain and cool.

Cook chopped onion until tender and lightly brown in the same pan that was used for the bacon.  Add flour and stir for 2 minutes on low heat.  Then add chicken broth and potatoes and continue to cook until potatoes are fork tender.

Add corn, basil, light cream, red pepper and continue cooking for another 20 minutes.

Serve with grated Parmesan cheese and crumbled bacon.  I also added diced green onion on top.

Makes 4-6 servings.

Enjoy! I served with a crusty baguette.  I promise you that you will want to have a second bowl!

My 2014 To Do List Around the House

Well since it is 2014 and a new year, I went around my home to see what I would like to add to my "to do" list for this year. Since moving to my home over two years ago,  there are still some projects that I would like to do hopefully this year.

First I would like to add pendant lighting to my kitchen bar area (yes I have finally chosen the pendant lighting that I fell in love with and will be adding to my kitchen.   I found them at Pottery Barn!!!

I also want to add bead board to our downstairs powder room.

In my living room, I want to change my coffee table or paint a blanket chest that I already have.

In our master bedroom, I might want to add some crown molding and paint room.

My stair case might get a little cosmetic update.  I have been seeing all over Pinterest on how the typical oak banister's and staircases have been painted and I am really loving the look.  See below.

I am sure there will be other things added gradually but not sure when they will be actually completed.  Oh and also I will be sharing some great news with you all soon!  Be sure to stop back!
