Jelly Bean Branches

I hope you had a lovely weekend.  I spent time watching UNC baseball in Chapel Hill and basking in the sunshine.  Since Easter is around the corner, I wanted to make a centerpiece for my farm table.  I have seen jelly bean trees in the past on Pinterest so I thought it would give it a try.  Let me tell you, it was a easy craft to do.

All you need is some branches, a vase for the branches, glue gun and of course, colorful jelly beans. I had everything on hand except at the last moment, I could not locate my glue gun, but low and behold it was found in my moving boxes in our garage.

Now next to share will be my Spring/Easter tablespace.

Thanks for your visit.

Baked Blueberry Oatmeal and Instagram

I love oatmeal for my morning breakfast and have it quite often.  Recently I have found many on Pinterest for baked oatmeal so I thought I would give this a try.  Recipe can be found here.

**I adapted my recipe somewhat with the oats and brown sugar, eggs and milk.  I used blueberries instead of dried cranberries.

It was so good and I will definitely be making this again.....

Homemade Applesauce Muffins

I have had this recipe for Applesauce Muffins for quite a long time but haven't made them in years. So today was the perfect day to make them.  They go perfect with a cup of coffee/tea or even a big, glass of milk!  My home smelled so good while they were baking in the oven.

They are very easy to make and oh so good!  I have also included the recipe below.

Homemade Applesauce Muffins
1 cup butter, softened
2 cups sugar
2 eggs
2 cups applesauce
4 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon cinnamon
¼ teaspoon ground cloves
¼ teaspoon allspice
1 teaspoon vanilla

In mixing bowl, cream butter and sugar until creamy.  Add eggs and vanilla.  Mix well. Stir in applesauce.  Combine flour, baking soda and spices, stir into creamed mixture.  Fold in 1 cup chopped walnuts (optional).

Fill greased muffin pan or paper lined muffin tins 3.4 full.  Bake at 350 degrees for 20-25 minutes. Let cool in pan for 5 minutes.  I also sprinkle confectioner sugar on top of them.  YUM!

I also add raisins to my batter,  they just add a little bit of sweetness to the muffin!  Another note, to prevent the raisins from sinking to bottom, I toss my raisins in one tablespoon of flour---

Well the last batch is coming out of the muffin, so I better go and get ready to enjoy one while they are warm!

Happy Macaron Day and Happy Spring Too!

Do you like Macaron's?  Well, today, March 20 celebrates Macaron Day on a global level.  In 2005, it was created in Paris by la Maison Pierre Herme.  During this day, a tradition of local bakeries hand out one free macaron to all of their customers.  A percentage of sales from macarons go towards a local charity.

Macaron's are a sweet meringue based confection made with eggs, icing sugar, granulated sugar and food coloring.  They are often filled with ganache, buttercream or  jam between two cookies.  The name is derived from the Italian word macarone, maccarone (Italian meringue).

My favorite macarons are from Laduree in Paris.  They were phenominal!  I was fortunate to visit there to enjoy a wonderful lunch and indulge myself with some of them!  While living in Beaufort, SC, I did enjoy some at Christophe Artisan Chocolatier in Charleston, SC.  See here.

Love this idea from Williams-Sonoma, a great idea for Valentines Day.

So tell me do you have a favorite macaron flavor?  My favorite are lavender, coconut, cappuccino. Just to name a few.....

Have a lovely weekend!

The Wall of Art - DIY Upcycled Fence

While visiting my sister-in-law last week in PA, I noticed her new fence (The Wall of Art - as they named it) on her property.  She is such a great collector of junk, recycled items, and vintage items.  She has been collecting all types of items for this project for awhile and the time came when it was ready to be constructed.  She had contractors install this wall and she actually placed all of her collected items on the walls.  I just love how this project turned out and wish I was part of it!

I just love all of the mismatched doors.  The heart on the blue door is made out of copper tubing, how clever!

There are pallets, terracotta pots, wrought iron and copper on this particular wall.

Love the shutters, wrought iron and pallets added to the wall......

Vintage push mower, rusty saw blades, chain and lantern......

Some metal and wrought iron accessories......

Love the rusty owl perched on the chippy door.....

Canoe, yellow bike, pallets and doors.....

Airmail anyone?  (vintage lunch pail made into a birdhouse) above.....

Mango the barn cat even posed for my one of my photos.....

My brother and her live in a tiny, historic village near West Chester, PA where there are rolling hills and farms surrounding her property.   Here is a photo of their barn ruins on her property.  They usually have outdoor parties held at the RUINS (they actually named it).  I am going to visit again soon and make sure that I will include some more photos of the barn ruins.

Here is my sister-in-law in front of her DIY project.  I think she did a fabulous job!  Don't you? Great job, Wendy!

Well I am going back to Europe!  Yes, we finalized our plans and are heading to Prague, Czech Republic and Berlin, Germany in early May.  Wow, I am excited for this trip!  Been busy trying to organize day activities, finding information on sights and landmarks, and researching restaurants.

I am looking forward to seeing the memorial of the Berlin Wall and the Holocaust Memorial in Berlin and while visiting Prague visiting the Old Town (Stare Mesto) and visiting the Prague Castle. We are also planning a bike tour in Prague, too!

Once time gets closer I am going to share our hotel in both cities, what attire I am planning on taking with me and other activities that I am planning to enjoy while on my vacation.

So while I will wait for my day to come to travel, I will leave you with a little eye candy of our trip.

Will be back with more of my upcoming trip when time gets closer!
