Around the Home

Hello There,

Lately I have been trying to get some projects done around the home before it gets too hot!  The upstairs bathroom is one project that I want to start as soon as possible.  Our home is less than ten years old, so nothing major needs to be done!

Here is my checklist for the bathroom and current photos of what it looks like now:

- I want to freshen up the room with a coat of paint (Benjamin Moore - Gray Owl).
- Remove old mirror and replace with an oval or square mirror preferable in white
- Replace the old "Hollywood Lights" over vanity with a farmhouse style light (I DISGUISE THEM)
- Add a new shower curtain and some new plush bath towels.
- Oh and perhaps add some new decor for the walls (I will shop from my home first to see if anything will fit first).

Here are some inspirational photos that I found on Pinterest for lighting so far:

Hopefully I will begin on this room sometime this week.  It is amazing how just a coat of paint can make such a great improvement!  Don't you think?

I also wanted to share some photos of other parts in my home.  I recently purchased this cottage style piece (I am using it as a dresser in the guest room). I JUST FELL IN LOVE WITH IT AT FIRST SIGHT AND KNEW IT WOULD BE A GREAT FIT!

I just love this original artwork of a Shrimper in the Low Country that I purchased at a Beaufort, SC gallery when I lived there.

Not sure if I have shared this before but I found this dough bowl in an antique shop nearby for my farm table.   I love the added lavender to the bowl, too!

And last I am sharing some photos of my dining room:

The vintage buffet is a recent purchase too!  It is painted in Paris Grey - Annie Sloan Chalk Paint.

I can't believe it has been almost one year since I left for my trip to Prague and Berlin.

We have decided not to visit Europe this year so we are visiting places in the U.S.  I just recently came back from Pennsylvania visiting my family.  It was so nice to see all my sisters and one brother. Our next trip we are planning is visiting our friend in Beaufort, SC.  I am looking forward to it!  We also have other trips that we would like to do - Asheville, Williamsburg and Boone, NC.  I am currently on a hunt for a large tobacco basket for a bare wall in my living room and I should be able to find one in the mountains of North Carolina!  (Fingers crossed)!

Well this is what is going on in my little world -- hope all is well with you all too!

Thanks for your visit!

  1. Your new house and the projects are very pretty. I have a bathroom just like that and they are kind of hard to work in. Your inspiration pics for the bathroom are nice and have the cottage farmhouse vibe. I love what you've done in your dining room. The shrimper is gorgeous!

  2. It's amazing what a coat of paint and a new light can do. Your inspiration light is very nice - I love the shape!

  3. Have fun with your bathroom project. At least with a house that age you don't have a ton of tear-out to do. I have those top light fixtures in our bathroom upstairs. xo Diana

  4. What would we do if we didn't have projects? You are well on your way!
I love the lavender resting in the wooden bowl
    So lovely.

  5. I like the lighting options you are looking at for your bathroom. I am sure it will turn out great! My home is about 60 years old and we are currently doing a makeover on our upstairs bath. I am adding farmhouse décor and it is very close to being finished. Have fun and get lots of pictures of the finished bath :)

  6. Great post and what fun to have a bathroom project!

  7. OH my, I was not done with my comment!

Anyhow, love each detail in your photographs, so pretty!
I found your blog over at Nana Diana's!
    Have a great day!

  8. Your home looks so nice, and I loved how you said you will shop from your home first, that's wise to do. I like the mirror that you are interested in, it looks antique. The cottage style dresser is so charming, and the pink flowers in the aqua vase looks pretty sitting there. The lavender fits perfectly in the bowl you found at the antique shop. I love that flowery bird, so cute. Wow, Prague and Berlin, how exciting that you visited both of these places.

I enjoyed seeing bits of your have good taste and everything has a place, which is nice.

  9. Hi,
Fun. I like the ideas you have for the bathroom. The lighting ideas are similar to ours in our bathroom. :-)
I will enjoy hearing and seeing photos of your upcoming trips.

  10. I love that corner of your home with the shrimper, the vintage suitcases and that wonderful pillow. So beautiful.
